Praying for The Lost – Third Edition

Before we jump into part three, if you haven’t read part one, it’s under the Powerful Prayer Life – Praying for The Lost. If you haven’t read part two, it’s under Praying for The Lost – Second Edition. Don’t forget to head over to print out the first and second prayer sheets.

As I suggested in previous editions, I recommend choosing one day a week and only praying one prayer sheet that week. You don’t want to burn out and feel like a robot saying the same things all the time. Prayer is also about you working with the Holy Spirit using creative prayers specifically for the people you’re impacting. That is exactly why there will always be few words per prayer point on the sheets.

Let’s check out our new weapons of massive destruction!

Pray for Israel
I’m embarrassed to say, I am one of the Christians who constantly forget. Our spiritual roots are in Israel, and they did an amazing job preserving the Word of God through wars, exiles and even falling away from God multiple times. Israel still has archeological digs going on that keep proving the Bible as true time and time again. Without Israel we wouldn’t have any spiritual roots and as much physical evidence of these roots.

Psalm 122:6
6Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. 7Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.”

One of things that we can pray for them is that the Evangelists to Israel rise up and walk in their call. We’re starting to see YouTube channels of evangelists who are showing Jews Jesus in the Old Testament.

Forgive God
Some people are angry at God a bad situation that happened, and that’s what prevents them from serving God. I met a man, that when he was 17 years-old, his parents sent him to football camp several states away. His “good catholic” mother and father were murdered. He was furious at God and not only wanted to go to hell but frequently mentioned it. He did say he thought the murders were a mafia hit, because absolutely nothing was touched or taken from the house. I met him in his late 20s, and the Lord had me minister to him about how He saved this man from seeing the murders and death of his parents. In his mind, he kept replaying the scenario where he was the hero. I asked him, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, if he ever played the scenario in his head where his parents died, and he was shot but lived. He said no. I told him you’re special forces in the military now, but you weren’t at 17. If he got a glimpse of this murderer, he would have spent the rest of his life trying to find the murderer and kill him. I know him, he would have never let it go. I reiterated how God saved him. It took several months of prayer and working on him to completely break those walls down, and he eventually accepted Jesus.

There are many reasons why people are angry at God and think He hurt them. We all know someone or will meet someone that is angry with God. Sometimes people are pretty vocal about it, and other times it takes a while for people to open up and say it. Regardless of what we know, we can always pray and intercede on their behalf.

Bring prodigal sons and daughters back home (spiritual and physical)
We all know the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). He left home, took his inheritance while the father was still alive, and threw the money around until he was completely broke. He came to his senses and went back home humbled. There are spiritual prodigal sons and daughters as well as physical. They took their blessed spiritual inheritance from their parents (prayer, blessings, and safety) and went off to live a sinful life. Some of them still have the spiritual wealth of their family and some have walked well out of God’s grace. No matter what point they are at, we can always pray they return. Doesn’t matter if someone’s children have physically left as well as spiritually left, we can pray for both returns.

How do we pray for them? Let’s look at Luke 15:17 NKJV.

“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

There is our answer, “Lord, bring them to their selves.” More contemporary versions say, “When he came to his senses.” Either way you want to say it, that’s exactly what they need! Praying the Word works. Don’t hesitate to say things in your own words, “Lord, help them realize what they’re doing. Enlighten them to the spiritual danger they’re living in. Remind them of your perfect peace. Lord, call them to return home to You and to their family. Let them feel a sense of belonging when they think of You and their family.” Keep going and let the creative prayer from the Holy Spirit help you!

Blessed family gatherings
We all know how these things can go! But the reason we’re praying this over everyone, and their family, is because the Holy Spirit can work better through love than strife. When things aren’t horrible like they expected, I’ve heard sinners say, “There must be a God!” Amen, we know there is a God and He can do so much more than peace.

Answer questions they have in their heart
Anyone that has done street evangelism can agree you occasionally meet someone that can’t come to God until He answers one or two of their deepest questions, “Why is there suffering in the world? Why does God allow babies to suffer? Why is there such extreme poverty in certain countries? Why do bad things happen to good people? My so-and-so was a Christian and they died of…, why?” Even though you sometimes have answers to their questions, like bad things happen to good people because Buddha promised you that not Jesus or those countries with extreme poverty are often into voodoo and witchcraft. Those people should consult with their god, but the person still walks off unsaved. They need the Holy Spirit to intervene in the situation. He needs to provide the answers from a source they’ll hear and allow it to sink down into their heart.

Christians surrounding them to be bold
This is a big one, believe it or not. Sometimes when you start to share Jesus, a closet Christian will speak up and everyone is shocked. This just recently happened when my unsaved family member’s friend walked into my grandmother’s church. My grandmother and mother went into shock! My mother immediately went over and questioned him if he had shared Jesus or not. That’s sad when someone feels like they have to ask a Christian if they let their light shine! I can understand, because when I was younger, I was not so bold. I was tired of being shy and so I prayed for boldness. I received it, all praise and glory to God. Let’s pray for boldness over the laborers to let their light shine! None of us should be shy or nervous talking about Jesus to the unsaved. None of us should ever feel afraid of being laughed at or rejected for our faith.

Call the lost sheep!
The two previous posts are about who the lost sheep actually are that Jesus is referring to. For an in-depth study, check out part one and part two of Wake-Up Call. Lost sheep are people who are Christians that walked away from the Lord altogether, and those that are unwilling to fulfill their call. The more they live life for themselves, living the Christian life or the sinner’s life, the farther they get from the Good Shepherd. To the saved we need to call in the lost sheep, all those who aren’t busy fulfilling their call in life. Call in the lost sheep over all your friends and family, not just your Salvation Notebook. We can’t necessarily spot a lost sheep, but Jesus, the Head of the Church, knows who they are and if they’re even thinking about wondering off.

Hunger for truth
Not everyone is hungry for the truth. That’s why people have coined the phrase, “my truth.” They know it’s not the truth, it’s just how they feel and want it to be accepted as truth without a factual argument, my truth, her truth, their truth. No, real truth comes from the Lord. Some people need the hunger of the truth of life stirred up inside them. When you do street evangelism if you ask people, “What happens when you die?” Very rarely has someone responded that they haven’t given much thought about it. Often times, they just make things up that make them feel good, “their truth.” Pray the hunger is stirred up for truth, “Hunger for truth about the meaning of life, a hunger for truth about Jesus,” and then get creative with the Holy Spirit.

See the unsaved in their lives as they really are
Often times when talking with newly converted Christians, they’ll say one of the biggest changes they made was their friends. They enjoyed the company of their unsaved friends, but when they gave their life to the Lord, they now see those friends as exhausting, depressing, shallow, selfish, negative, and taking them to a bad place. So, why not pray for this right now? Why let people influence a person we’re praying over go against our prayers? There was a man who got on social media and invited anyone to join him at an exclusive club, as long as these people were going to smoke a particular very expensive brand of cigar and drink expensive whiskey. Why? Why should we let this happen? This man is going to make my Salvation Notebook tonight! We’ve all heard someone say something to the tune of, “I quit smoking or drinking, until I get around *names a friend* and then I start up again.” Don’t let their friends that offer only bad behavior influence those we’re standing for in faith. There is more with us than there is with them (2 Kings 6:16)!

Thanksgiving over God working right now
I am sometimes, and I am being honest it’s usually with salvation prayers, light on the thanksgiving side. Personally, I’m challenging myself to be much heavier on the thanksgiving side.

Philippians 4:6 NKJV
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

We went over the scripture before that when Paul and Silas prayed, they were singing when the deliverance came (Acts 16:25-26). Then there is one of my favorite stories in 2 Chronicles 20 about Jehoshaphat appointing people to go in front of the army and say, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.” Read that story. It’s so inspiriting how the praise and worship team fought the battle with praise. I love it! Fight this battle with praise! Give thanks to the Lord for working on these people, for His love endures forever.

(If you download the document, which is the best option, after pressing print, choose BORDERLESS or if you just print, choose 100% in your printer options, which will only be close to the edge.)

Don’t be discouraged if your prayers seem like they’re not working. Just because we don’t see anything on the outside, doesn’t mean changes aren’t taking place inside. I have a friend I have been praying about for many years; a TV channel ruined his faith, and one of the programs taught how Jesus was the biggest con that ever lived. A few days ago, my friend said to me that he wishes his body wasn’t full of “ugly scars” from stab wounds. I was completely shocked! For the 10+ years I’ve known him, he’s always been proud of them, and happy to play show and tell. This time, he told me it was “all stupid stuff.” I was caught off guard and didn’t even know what to say, so I said, “I thought you were proud of them!” He replied, “I was… but… now they’re just ugly scars that I wish I didn’t have.” The Lord is always working and constantly stripping things off of him and everyone else that we’re lifting up in prayer. Some people respond more quickly, and others take time; but the Lord is always working! That’s why we’re going to be happy and praise Him for what He’s already done.

Thank You for joining me in helping to fill Heaven! Until the Fourth Edition, thank You Father, for working on people’s spiritual grounds with these prayers, and getting them ready to receive Jesus as Savior. Thank You for showing us how to fill Heaven up from home. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
